Introduction: Hospitalization is a process that requires the client to stay in the
hospital, undergo therapy and treatment until he returns home. During this
process the child and the parents can experience various events with very
traumatic and stressful experiences. Untreated pain has both physical and
psychological repercussions for the child. The pain scale reduction method can be
grouped into 2, namely pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic. One of the non-pharmacological techniques that can be done easily in children is visual
distraction watching animated cartoons. The visual distraction technique of
watching animated cartoons is one of the distraction techniques that can reduce
non-pharmacological anxiety. The purpose of this study was to determine the
effect of visual distraction techniques watching animated cartoons on
hospitalization pain response in children in hospital. Method: The method used in
this research is the Literature Review Study with journal searches using 3
databases, namely through Science Direct, Proquest, and Google Scholar.
Journal inclusion criteria for the last 5 years. Result: The results showed that
from 12 journals that have been found, that there is an effect of visual distraction
techniques watching animated cartoons on hospitalization pain response in
children in the hospital. Discussion: From the results of this study, it is hoped that
the provision of visual distraction techniques to watch animated cartoons can be
used as an alternative non-pharmacological way to reduce the pain response to
hospitalization in children while in the hospital.
