Hypertension is a degenerative disease. Hypertension is a disease that causes
death in the world and a risk factor for hypertension is basically age. So far, it is
not surprising that hypertension is often found in the elderly. One of the nonpharmacological treatments for hypertension is exercise. The purpose of this
study was to determine the effect of exercise on reducing blood pressure in the
elderly with hypertension. The method used in this study is a literature review
study by searching for journals using 3 databases, namely through SAGE, Google
Schoolar and Science Direct. From the inclusion criteria of journals for the last 5
years, 20 journals have found that various types of exercise can reduce systolic
and diastolic blood pressure 3 times a week with a minimum duration of 20
minutes and a maximum of 40 minutes. Gymnastics has a significant effect in
helping the elderly with hypertension. Gymnastics supports the elderly with
hypertension to reduce high blood pressure or hypertension to normal blood
pressure, without having to take antihypertensive drugs regularly with the effect
of exercise on lowering blood pressure. in the elderly with hypertension shows
that the H1 hypothesis is accepted. Therefore, it is recommended for elderly
people with hypertension to do exercise so that blood pressure decreases.
