Cancer in children is one of the leading causes of death. Handling cancer in
children will go through a series of chemotherapy treatment processes, with the
hope that the cancer cells can be completely destroyed. In a preliminary study at
RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar, approximately 80% of pediatric patients undergoing
chemotherapy programs, mostly experience the psychological impact of anxiety.
One of the efforts to reduce anxiety in cancer children with chemotherapy is with
family support. The design in this study is an observational analytic method with a
Cross Sectional approach which aims to analyze the relationship between two
variables at one time, namely the relationship between family support and anxiety
levels in children undergoing chemotherapy. The sampling technique used was
purposive sampling on the parent population of children with cancer who received
chemotherapy at RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar. The research instrument was a family
support questionnaire consisting of 15 questions and an anxiety questionnaire
consisting of 20 questions filled out by parents. The results of the study obtained
high family support as many as 56 respondents (83.6%), and the results showed
that most patients with mild anxiety levels were 61 respondents (91%). Based on
Spearman's statistical test, the r value was 0.356 (p value <0.05) so that the results
of this study showed that there was a weak relationship between family support
and anxiety levels in cancer children undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, the
family must be involved in assistance during chemotherapy treatment in the hope
of being able to have a positive impact during treatment.
