Cardiac catheterization is a non-invasive intervention that can cause complications of vascular access after compression of the femoral artery or aff sheat. Cold pack gel is a non-pharmacological therapy given after aff sheat to reduce pain. This study aims to determine the effect of cold pack gel compresses on reducing the pain level of patients after cardiac catheterization at the Integrated Cardiac Service Installation, Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang. The research design is a Quasi Experiment and the design used is a pretest-posttest with a control group (pretest-posttest with a control group). The sample in this study consisted of 2 groups, 16 respondents in the intervention group with cold pack gel compress treatment and 16 respondents in the control group with treatment according to standard procedures in the cardiac catheterization room, which were taken from November to December 2021. The results showed that there was a decrease in pain levels. in each group (intervention and control), with the results of the Wilcoxon Test statistical test known p value (0.0000) < (0.05). And the results of the Mann Whitney test for the two groups showed a difference in scores on the pain scale of patients who underwent aff sheat after cardiac catheterization in the control group and the intervention group with a p value of 0.000 <0.05. The decrease in the difference in the score of the intervention group was higher than the control group, in other words cold pack gel compresses were able to reduce the pain scale faster than without compresses. The cold temperature of the cold pack gel reduces the conductivity of the peripheral free nerve endings, thereby reducing the sensitivity of pain stimuli, slowing the speed of nerve conduction or pain impulses reaching the brain. So that the perception of cold becomes more dominant and reduces the patient's perception of pain.
