Sarcoptes scabiei mites are ectoparasites that cause scabies, this disease can attack a group of people who live with one of them. Sarcoptes scabiei lives in the human horn skin layer, and can survive from samples of patient dust, floors, furniture and beds. The purpose of this study was to identify and calculate the density of mites Sarcoptes scabiei in the dust of the "X" Orphanage room in Gondanglegi District with the Flotation Method. This research is descriptive research, the technique used to take samples is total sampling. The number of samples used in the study were 18 samples. Dust samples are taken from two places, namely on the carpet and floor. Dust mites are identified macroscopically and microscopically using a microscope with 100x magnification. The results of microscopic research using the flotation method (Flotation) showed that 11 samples (61.1%) contained Sarcoptes scabiei while 7 samples (38.9%) did not have Sarcoptes scabiei but mites Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Dermatophagoides farinae and Cheyletus spp. Where as macroscopic identification, the highest density of mites is found in carpet dust (12.5 / gram of dust). The result of the study showed that in the room dust sample there were mites of Sarcoptes scabiei, this caused indirect transmission of scabies is very likely to occur. The suggestion for the next researcher is to identify dust mites microscopically using the Voorhorst method to add to the validity of the study.
