Leukocytes are the body's defense units that play a role in infectious agents and are transported to areas that are inflamed. Pesticides are chemicals that are used to kill plant pests. However, pesticides also affect human health and the environment, such as disorders of the blood profile. Data on cases of national poisoning in 2016 due to pesticides were 771 cases in workers in the agricultural sector. This study aims to describe the number of leukocytes and the count of leukocytes in farmers exposed to pesticides. The research design used was a descriptive (Non-experimental) survey with a population of 53 farmers and a total sample of 16 people. The sampling technique is done by purposive sampling. Examination of the number and count of leukocytes is carried out using a Sysmex XS-800i Hematology analyzer. From the results of this study, the number of leukocytes was obtained in the normal range with an average of 8.24x10³ / uL. Leukocyte counts were increased in eosinophils with a mean of 3.66% and for leukocyte types such as Basophils 0.39%, Neutrophils 60.03%, Lymphocytes 27.77% and Monocytes 8.14% within normal limits. Pesticides cause an increase in lipid peroxidase in the body thereby increasing free radicals which trigger inflammatory reactions and have an impact on increasing the number of leukocytes in the blood. The suggestion of this research is the need for guidance on the correct use of pesticides and an understanding of the importance of using PPE to farmers.
