Water sources that are used to meet health needs and household needs, contain many cations and anions. The content can cause losses due to the level of hard water which is quite high. According to WHO hardness can cause cardiovascular and urolithiasis, cause crust metal equipment for cooking, and blockages in metal pipes due to deposition of CaCO3. Therefore, water must be boiled before being used as consumption water. This study aims to analyze differences in groundwater hardness before and after cooking. This research is an experimental descriptive analysis with total sampling technique. The population in this study is the source of PDAM water in Batu City. The sample used in the form of water from DAM and springs. Hardness examination using complexometry titration method. The results showed the highest decrease in soil water hardness decreased in samples A and B by 16 mg / L, samples C, D, and E by 12 mg / L and the lowest in sample F by 10 mg / L. The decrease is due to the cooking process until the water boils over medium heat for 10 minutes. The conclusion of this study is that by cooking water, hardness levels can be reduced so that water is safer for consumption, so it is expected not to consume water that is not yet cooked and it is recommended to boil water for consumption.
