Rhodamin B is a synthetic dye commonly used in the textile industry that can irritate the respiratory tract and is also carcinogenic. Therefore, rhodamin B is prohibited for use in accordance with the Decree of the General of Drug and Food Control No. 00386 / C / SK / II / 90 concerning certain dyes which are declared as dangerous dyes in food and cosmetics because they can cause liver, kidney and lymph damage followed by anatomic changes. in the form of organ enlargement. This research aims to determine the levels of rhodamine B in lipsticks circulating in Pasar Besar Kota Malang. 30 samples of lipstick were obtained from 15 brands of lipstick with each brand taken 2 colors namely pink and bright red. Samples obtained were prepared by immersing the sample in ammonia solution to attract rhodamine B dyes using wool yarn. The sample was then read using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry with a maximum wavelength of 545 nm. The results showed that from 30 samples there were 23 samples that were positive containing rhodamin B, had the characteristics of striking colors, some that included a notification from BPOM and some did not, did not mention the composition, expiration date and other identities.
