Counting the number of giant platelets can be found by means of a blood smear using a blood sample to determine whether or not the giant platelets are present. Counting the number of giant platelets is taken from the blood of people with thalassemia, but at the time of taking the blood it will have an impact on the patient. This study aims to determine the number of giant platelets in thalassemia sufferers. The results of this count are 8 different journals, both national and international, which state that every blood sample in thalassemia sufferers is calculated the number of giant platelets. Testing in this study used a literature study method that got different results, 7 journals had giant thrombocytes while 1 journal got thrombocytosis. Regarding the giant platelets that are obtained from thalassemia sufferers, the researchers will also discuss more deeply. The results of the study can be concluded that Thalassemia who performs multiple blood transfusions results in complications that have giant platelets.
