RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LONG USE OF MECHANICAL VENTILATOR TO THE INCIDENT OF VENTILATOR ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA (VAP) IN THE PEDIATRIC HCU ROOM, MALANG HOSPITAL
XMLAbstrak
Background: An associated pneumonia ventilator (vap) is one of the nosokomial infections that
are often found in patients on a mechanical ventilator. One of the risk factors in the VAP is the
lengthy use of mechanical ventilators.
Method: The study uses the case control design with a retrospective approach, the sample consists
of 72 respondents. The data is collected by reviewing the data of the medical record and being
analyzed with Kendall's tau test. Studies show that VAP genesis on a child on a mechanical
ventilator is 33%.
Results and analysis: Statistical test analysis got the P value of 0,000 so that H0 was rejected and
H1 accepted. Then there's a correlation between the long ventilator usage and the VAP incident.
With an r (correlation power) 0.270 there is enough correlation between a long mechanical
ventilator usage and a VAP incident, with a positive correlation direction which means that the
longer a ventilator usage is likely to be VAP.
Discussion: Child patients who are on a mechanical ventilator are susceptible to VAP events, this
is affected by weak immune systems, anatomy of respiratory systems, nutrition status and
immunization status. So it would take a good director to a child on a mechanical ventilator.
